The meeting was held upon request of the Lithuanian Party. Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania was represented by Audronius Azubalis and Andrius Kubilius. Regional Director for Eurasia International Republican Institute Stephen Nix and Resident Country Director, Ukraine, International Republican Institute Michael Druckman also participated in the meeting.
The Parties established priority areas of Ukrainian-Lithuanian bilateral relations, stressed the importance of their further deepening on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly, they discussed the issue on future inter-parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania via programs of the International Republican Institute.
The Lithuanian Party got everyone acquainted with programs of the International Republican Institute, particularly, the main aim of which is creating and promoting democracy, freedom of speech and development of civil society, self-government and the rule of law in the whole world. The International Republican Institute also promotes organization and holding seminars and trainings with the aim to train Ukrainian experts in such areas as structuring organizations, forming coalitions, electoral technologies, etc.
Chairperson of the Committee Hanna Hopko got MPs of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania acquainted with internal political situation in Ukraine and expressed necessity to activate relations at the level of inter-parliamentary friendship groups and elaborate a mutual work plan. She mentioned that the Committee is working on such inter-parliamentary friendship group with the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania.
In their turn, deputies of the Seimas stressed that the Republic of Lithuania was and still is a supporter of Ukrainian-Lithuanian cooperation, and also emphasized the need to activate the work of trilateral Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian inter-parliamentary Assembly.
